Glenmorangie 12 year old. The Lighthouse. 70cl. 48% abv

This release has been produced to celebrate the opening of the new Glenmorangie multi-million-pound innovation distillery, The Lighthouse, in September 2021. This expression has been laid down to mature for at least 12 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before there were just 3000 bottles produced at a strength of 48% abv.

Nose - vanilla fudge, toffee and sultanas rise from the glass and are followed by golden syrup, apricot jam and a hint of baking spices. Hints of milk chocolate, honeycomb.

Palate - Initial notes of vanilla custard and toffee, golden syrup and dried fruits. Then comes brown sugar and that apricot jam from the nose, along with hints of warm ginger cake and warming baking spices.  Late notes of creamed coconut, cocoa powder and toasted walnuts along with a hint of dried tropical fruits.

Finish - A decent length and begins sweetly. The dried fruits and honey-like sweetness slowly fades and this reveals the baking spices, oak and some malty cereals. An increasing dryness with time
